In a World Full of Noise, We Choose to Stay True: A Statement on Brand Integrity

At Shiok BBQ, we believe that a great reputation is built on one thing: great food.

Recently, it came to our attention that Shiok BBQ was featured in an SEO article titled "Top Picks for Best BBQ Catering in Singapore" by an agency called Foretec Singapore. We did not ask for this. We do not know them. And most importantly—they probably never tasted our food.

This incident highlights a bigger problem in the food industry today, and we want to share our stand on it.

If You Haven't Tasted It, Don't Share It

We have to ask: If you haven't tasted our food, and you don't have a single real photo of the experience, who are you to recommend us to the world?

The internet is full of "bloggers" and directories who may not actually know food. Many are simply chasing traffic, looking for content ideas, or trying to manipulate search algorithms for clients. In a world full of information, it is very easy to lose focus and get lost in the noise.

We refuse to get lost.

We are foodies who stay true to ourselves. We believe the food must speak for itself.

  • If staying true means slower business growth? So be it.

  • If it means lesser web traffic and fewer "viral" moments? So be it.

We are content to stay within ourselves, keep our heads down, and work our way slowly up the hill—one marinated wing, one grilled satay, and one happy customer at a time.

Our Golden Rule: The 3-Visit Standard

We love legitimate food reviewers and content creators who share our passion. But we hold ourselves—and those who review us—to a very high standard.

We believe in this simple Golden Rule: If you do not enjoy the food, or if you haven't tried it enough to understand it, do not share it.

Great food isn't about a one-time lucky bite. It's about consistency. We respect the critics who revisit a place three times before passing judgment. We respect the creators who tell us, "This wasn't good enough," allowing us to dive back into our factory and work harder.

We would rather have zero coverage than a fake review.

The Reality of the Foretec Article

This brings us back to the article by Foretec  | Top Picks for Best BBQ Catering in Singapore

. It lists us without ever tasting our food, purely to game a computer algorithm.

We reached out to the owner, Mr. Yang Chung Sim (Lester Sim), in early January 2026 to be removed. He promised to remove us by "next week." Weeks have passed, and they have ignored our request.

Exhibit A: Written confirmation from Foretec Singapore (Lester) promising to remove our brand from their "Best of" list in early January.

Proof of deceptive SEO practices by Foretec Singapore. The agency refused to remove Shiok BBQ from a "Best BBQ" listicle designed to artificially boost search rankings for potential paying client
Exhibit B: Despite requests, the misleading article remains live to support the SEO strategy of their client.

We are issuing this statement to clarify that we are not associated with that list, that agency, or their clients. We are independently owned, independently operated, and fully focused on our craft.

To our customers: Thank you for finding us, tasting us, and supporting the slow, steady climb up the hill.

Back to the grill,
