In Singapore, there are generally two types of squid sources. One is from Malaysia, known for its fresh, sweet flavor and often labeled as high quality. The other is from Indonesia, which you need to be cautious about. Indonesian squid is abundant, but the preparation process can be concerning. These squids are often soaked in chemicals like lye water (alkaline) to neutralize bad smells from being not fresh or low quality. Cooking Method:

Thawing:

Remove the Fresh Squid from the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight or for about 6-8 hours. For quicker thawing, place the sealed squid package in cold water for 1-2 hours.

Cooking:

  • Grilling:

    1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
    2. Brush the squid with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
    3. Grill for 2-3 minutes on each side until the squid is opaque and tender.

     

  • Stir-Frying:

    1. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add a splash of oil.
    2. Add the thawed squid and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
    3. Add your favorite vegetables and sauces for a delicious stir-fry.
  • Boiling for Soup: Bring a pot of water or broth to a boil. Add the squid and boil for 2-3 minutes until tender. Add vegetables and seasonings to create a flavorful soup.

Serving:

Once cooked, serve the Fresh Squid immediately. Garnish with fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley for added flavor and presentation.

 

Optional Enhancements:
